ACTION ALERT: Wake Boat Update

by Greg Schmitz | Aug 24, 2025 | Wake Boats

University of Minnesota Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory has released it’s phase 2 report on power boat hydro-dynamics and their impact

The study recommends wake boats should operate in 20 ft of water or greater when in semi-displacement (surfing) mode.  To view the Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory study click HERE.

The following videos clearly document the impact.

WI Lakes supports the coalitions
position of

  • Preservation of Local Control – Local municipalities’ existing right to enact or maintain local ordinances that are more restrictive than these state minimums shall be preserved
  • 700 Feet From Shore – Wake-enhanced boating activities should occur at least 700’ from the shoreline.
  • 30-Foot Depth – Wake-enhanced boating activities must be done in depths of no less than 30 feet.
  • Prevent Spread of Invasive Species from Ballast Tanks – Boats moving from lake to lake must have proof of decontaminated ballast tanks before entering lakes
