This week I would like to introduce our newest addition to
the Forest County Land Conservation/Land Information
Department. His name is Lucas O’Brien. Lucas will serve
as the Land Conservation technician. He is from Belle
Plaine, Minnesota and graduated from Belle Plaine Senior
High in 2021. After high school, Lucas attended the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point pursuing a
Bachelor’s of Science degree with a Natural Resources
emphasis. While at UWSP, Lucas decided to major in
Water Resources and minor in Soil Science. In the
summers of 2021-2024, he was able to work an internship
for the City of Prior Lake Minnesota in the Water
Resources department. During his time there, he did state
inspections on the city’s stormwater infrastructure and
also implemented best management practices. Lucas
recently graduated from UWSP in May and started for
Forest County the first week of June. While at Stevens
Point, he was able to take a variety of different classes in
soil, wetlands, water resources and geographic
information systems (GIS). He enjoys spending his free time fishing, hunting, playing
baseball and hanging out with friends and family. One of Lucas’s main roles as Land
Conservation Technician, will be to design and implement shoreland restoration projects
as part of Forest County’s cost share program. He will also start to grow other programs
that the county hopes to offer, like the Healthy Lakes and Rivers Program. There are
many future projects that I have in mind for Lucas, such as assisting me with managing
our non-metallic mining ordinance, youth education, other structural work such as
culvert design and replacement, nutrient management planning, and invasive species
treatment and prevention. It has been almost a full year of this being a department of
just one full time staff and I am grateful to have him on board. You can contact Lucas
for any conservation related questions at or you can contact
our office at 715-478-1387 to speak to either Lucas or myself. He is looking forward to
meeting and connecting with landowners throughout the county!
