Forest County Association of Lakes (FCAL) Has a Very Successful 2013 Essay Contest
The Forest County Association of Lakes (FCAL) again had the fifth and sixth graders at Crandon, Laona and Wabeno participate in their 2013 essay contest. Crandon had 74 students write essays, while Laona had 26 students and Wabeno 14. The essays were written during the month of April, evaluated on May 6th, with presentations made at either the schools’ end of the year awards day or at an arranged time when the students had an assembly.
The topic for this years’ essay was “(An Aquatic Invasive Specie) and How It Can Impact My Favorite Forest County Lake”. The essays were limited to no more than 300 words. The teachers at each school were informed about the details and again did a great job on getting their students to participate.
The top three essay winners at each school were awarded cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place.. The winners were as follows; Crandon: 1st Place Lynzee McGeshick, 2nd Place Sydney Gretzinger and Third Place McKenna Stamper.; Laona: 1st Place went to Tanner Petereson, 2nd Place to Kayin Hawkins and 3rd Place to Halle Lazzeroni; Wabeno: 1st Place Jacob Christianson, 2nd Place Bob Brauer and 3rd Place to Logan Riebe. Congratulations to these winners and thanks to all the students in all the schools that participated.
All the winning essays will be on display at the Crandon Public Library until Kentuck Day where they will then be visible for viewing at the FCAL booth. The winners and their parents will be invited as guests of FCAL at their annual dinner meeting on October 12 were they will be asked to read their winning essays.
